Hemorrhoid Treatment - HET™ System

Hemorrhoids are a collection of blood vessels in the lower rectum that can cause pain, itching and bleeding. To treat internal hemorrhoids, your doctor may opt to use a new FDA-approved non-surgical device called the HET System. With the HET System, our physicians are often able to treat all affected hemorrhoids in one appointment. This method results in the hemorrhoids shrinking, and brings resolution to the disruptive symptoms.

What Happens During Hemorrhoid Treatment with the HET System?

The HET System’s unique design allows it to treat the hemorrhoids above the “Dentate line” where pain receptors are few. Once the hemorrhoid is identified, it is captured within the device. Then, the device applies mild thermal energy to stop the flow of blood to the hemorrhoid.

The procedure takes only a few minutes, and the majority of patients experience no pain, or brief, mild discomfort. In most cases, patients return to work or normal activities shortly following the hemorrhoid treatment.

Preparing for Hemorrhoid Treatment with the HET System

Several days before the procedure, you may be asked to stop taking aspirin, ibuprofen or any other drugs that make it more difficult for blood to clot. Plan for your recovery and care after the procedure and follow any instructions provided by the health care provider.

The HET System is currently used in the treatment of people with grade one or two hemorrhoids. HET bipolar coagulation is not indicated for hemorrhoidal prolapse.
